Three pro-Palestinian demonstrators have been charged with stirring up racial hatred over alleged chants calling for an intifada at a protest in central London last month.

The man and two women charged are Abdallah Alanzi, 24, Haya Adam, 21, and Azza Zaki, 60. All are from London.

They were charged on Monday with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour intended to stir up racial hatred or where it was likely to be stirred up.

The trio were arrested on 17 December 2025 at a protest outside the Ministry of Justice. They will appear at Westminster Magistrate’s Court on 23 February.

The Metropolitan Police says its Public Order Crime team considered chants made about an intifada as well as other chanting during the protest.

Hours before the protest, the Met and Greater Manchester Police had announced it would take stronger action against chanting at these demonstrations in the aftermath of the Bondi attack in Australia – where two gunmen targeted a Hannukah celebration, killing 15 people and injuring dozens more.

The two forces said they would now start arresting people for chanting “globalise the intifada”, the Arabic word for “uprising”.

At the time they said: “The context has changed. Words have meaning and consequence. We will act decisively and make arrests.”

Jewish community groups welcomed the tougher stance as they believed the demonstrations, held regularly since the October 7th 2023 attacks in Israel, had turned into “hate marches” inciting violence against Jewish people.

But pro-Palestinian organisations said it was an attempt to suppress freedom of speech and protest.

A Crown Prosecution Service spokesperson said: “Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.”
