Jos, Plateau State – A newlywed corps member, Ibrahim Haruna Abdulkareem, was killed just 48 hours before the completion of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Jos, Plateau State.

The 31-year-old corps member was killed during a reprisal attack in the Anguwan Rukuba area.

Legit.ng reports that gunmen stormed the community and killed several Jos residents on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

It was gathered that the deceased, who was serving at Almustafa Private School, Jos, as his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), was preparing to pass out.

The deceased’s younger brother, Mustafa Haruna Abdulkareem, said the corps member supplemented his NYSC allowance by operating a commercial motorcycle (okada) between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. daily.

He explained that he did that to support his pregnant wife and other family members.

As reported by Daily Trust, he stated this while speaking to newsmen in Jos.

He said the corps member, who resides at the Yantifa community in Jos North, became the family’s breadwinner after their father’s death.

“After returning from his PPA that day, he prepared and went out again around 7:00 p.m. for okada work.

“Between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m., we started hearing about the attack in Anguwan Rukuba. We became worried because okada riders are usually vulnerable in such situations. We tried calling him, but his phone was unreachable. From that moment, we knew something was wrong.”

The family lamented that Abdulkareem left behind a seven-month pregnant wife, now faced with raising their unborn child without him.

Tinubu takes action over Jos killings

Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu strongly condemned the deadly attacks by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba district, Jos, Plateau State, and the attacks in Kahir village in Kaduna State.

The President assured Nigerians that the barbaric acts in Plateau and Kaduna States will not go unpunished.

UniJos takes action after gunmen’s night attack

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the University of Jos (UNIJOS) suspended all examinations scheduled for 30 and 31 March 2026 following a deadly nighttime attack in Angwan Rukuba.

Eyewitnesses said gunmen on motorcycles fired indiscriminately, killing many residents and injuring several others.

Emmanuel Madugu, Deputy Registrar of Information and Public Relations, confirmed that the University was liaising with security agencies to ensure the safety of students and staff.
