Police authorities used the third day of the 2026 National Police Day to take their message directly to the public, focusing on election safety and responsible road use across Lagos and Ogun states.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, led a sensitization programme at the Zonal Headquarters that brought together community stakeholders, members of the Police Community Relations Committee, and residents.

The session addressed the dangers of electoral violence and ballot snatching, while outlining how citizens can help prevent acts capable of undermining democratic processes.
Participants were urged to remain vigilant before, during, and after elections, and to cooperate with security agencies by sharing timely information.
Police officials warned that election-related crimes carry serious consequences and often result in loss of lives, property destruction, and prolonged instability.
Focus on election violence prevention
As part of the outreach, the Zone 2 Command extended its engagement beyond the conference hall. Commercial drivers in Lagos were targeted in a separate exercise held at the Obalende motor park, where officers spoke directly to drivers whose daily activities place them at the heart of public movement.

The AIG reminded drivers that their conduct on the road affects public safety and social order. They were advised to obey traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving, shun overloading, and stay clear of alcohol or drugs while driving. According to the police, strict compliance with road safety rules remains one of the most effective ways to reduce accidents.
At the close of the activities, the Zone 2 boss thanked stakeholders and members of the public for their cooperation throughout the National Police Day events. He restated the commitment of the Zonal Headquarters to sustained public engagement aimed at protecting lives and property in both states.
AIG Jimoh takes charge at Zone 2 command
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Moshood Jimoh has vowed to ensure a hundred per cent compliance with human rights as he officially takes over zone 2 command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Lagos.
The immediate past commissioner of police, Lagos command, made the promise on Monday, March 30, when he assumed duty at the zone 2 command, in line with his posting and promotion from CP to AIG rank.
He reiterated his stance on zero tolerance for human rights violations, adding that suspects must not be detained beyond 24 to 48 hours without being charged to court, except where the law allows detention beyond such hours.
IGP Tunji Disu decorates Jimoh as AIG
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, decorated Olohundare Moshood Jimoh as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
Disu urged Jimoh to deploy his operational experience and professionalism to strengthen policing nationwide.
His elevation follows a widely acknowledged period of operational consolidation in Lagos state policing.
