Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi state, has condemned the assassination of Eze Josephat Ikegwu, the traditional ruler of the Isinkwo community, saying the killing was barbaric and a direct assault on the unity, peace and the collective conscience of the state.
Monday Uzor, the chief press secretary to Governor Nwifuru, condemned the incident in a statement on Thursday, April 3, adding that the governor has ordered the security architecture in the state to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing of the traditional ruler with immediate effect.

Channels Television reported that Ikegwu was shot dead by the attackers on Wednesday night, April 1. Sources in the community disclosed that the incident occurred around 10 p.m. when the hoodlums stormed the traditional ruler’s residence.
The gunmen reportedly shot the victim through his window while he was resting alongside his wife in their bedroom. The attack caused tension in the community.
However, the governor mourned the demise of the traditional ruler, and the statement reads in part:
“It is with a heart weighed down by grief and deep anguish that I condemn the gruesome and senseless murder of His Royal Highness, Ezeogo Josephat Ikegwu”

Timothy Nwakpa condemned the killing:
“It’s very unfortunate, but we must start picking up our parts together to reform and revive our society. The sanctity of life has been so debased, and it’s not a tea affair. Let us start by saying the truth and put society on the straight part, leaving mediocrity against merit. May his soul find rest, Amen.”

Christopher Agwu spoke on a possible reason for the killings:
“I remember when politics was very far from traditional institutions; things like this don’t happen. Politicians’ closeness to traditional rulers may be a major threat to the safety of the heads of our traditional institutions. May his soul rest in peace.”
James Abba decried the killing:
“Too bad, why are we killing our revered traditional rulers? Have we lost our value as humans? God of Ebony state and its ancestors, why are you allowing this shedding of blood?”
Joy Amala Nwagu called for justice:
“This is jungle justice, and no matter the heights of offences that People might’ve committed, it’s very improper & mostly unholy taking lives not created by humans, and please let the Perpetrators be fished out by the appropriate Quarters & let there be weighty punishment given to the perpetrators in order to avert future reoccurrences.”

APC sells LG form for N30 million
