The 18-year-old Atalanta defender has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in Europe, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Chelsea all reportedly monitoring his development ahead of the summer transfer window.

For Nigerian fans, the growing interest carries even more significance because, despite representing Italy at the youth level, Ahanor remains fully eligible to play for the Super Eagles.
Ahanor’s rapid rise in Europe
Ahanor’s rise over the past year has been nothing short of remarkable.
Born in Italy to Nigerian parents, the defender’s potential was obvious early enough for Atalanta to spend a staggering €17 million to sign him from Genoa last summer while he was still only 17.

In another development, Legit.ng reported that Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor has spoken after earning his first call-up to the Italian U21 national team in a move that could spell the end for Nigeria’s chase.
Ahanor was born in Italy but was not eligible to represent the senior national team until he acquired citizenship when he turned 18 in February.
