FCT, Abuja – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have been warned that recent developments involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could trigger a national crisis.

A former deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, Comrade Timi Frank, alleged that interference in opposition parties could “set Nigeria on fire” if not urgently addressed.

He urged the United States President Donald Trump to intervene to safeguard democracy in Nigeria.

As reported by Daily Independence, Frank stated this while reacting to INEC’s decision to derecognise David Mark’s leadership of the ADC.

“INEC and the APC-led government appear to be taking steps that threaten the very foundation of our democracy.”

The political activist added that the pattern suggests a coordinated attempt to weaken political opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Frank, the trend mirrors developments during the regime of former Head of State, Sani Abacha.

Frank said the pattern suppressed democratic institutions.

“This pattern is reminiscent of the tactics employed during the era of General Sani Abacha.”

He alleged that recent developments point to a drift towards authoritarianism by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.

Accused plot to stop ADC from participating in 2027 elections

A civil society organisation, the Nigeria Democratic Rights Advocacy (NDRA), made serious allegations against the presidency ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group alleged that the presidency is planning on how to hinder the ADC from participating in the 2027 elections.

The NDRA says a senior northern political appointee within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) convened a meeting to strategise.

ADC breaks silence after INEC withdraws recognition

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) condemned INEC for withdrawing recognition of the party’s leadership.

Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC national publicity secretary, criticised INEC’s interpretation of a Court of Appeal ruling as contradictory and questioned the commission’s impartiality.

ADC accused INEC of yielding to government pressure and said it was reviewing legal and political options to protect its leadership structure.
