The African Democratic Congress has confirmed a sharp rise in new memberships following the defection of former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Party officials said the development signaled growing momentum toward a broader political realignment ahead of future elections.

The party disclosed that its online registration platform recorded a surge in activity within 24 hours after Kwankwaso directed his supporters nationwide to enlist with the ADC. The confirmation was contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
ADC cites growing political momentum
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) warmly welcomes the decision of former Governor of Kano State and Presidential Candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 General Election, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to join our party at this important moment in our country’s journey.”
The party described the move as a response to widespread public desire for a new political direction.
It said Kwankwaso’s record in governance and his national grassroots following strengthened the party’s push to build a competitive coalition.
ADC noted that the defection was formally witnessed by senior figures including National Chairman David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, alongside members of the National Working Committee. Prominent political figures such as Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi were also present.
The party said the spike in registrations reflected increasing public alignment with its platform, adding that the ADC aimed to channel the momentum into a coordinated national effort ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
