“Police ‘waste’ millions on diversity schemes”, says the Daily Express. It reports on new findings from a conservative think tank, which says £631m was spent on diversity, equality and inclusion activities since 2020 across police forces. Such funds “could instead have been used to fight crime” or recruited “thousands of new officers”, according to the paper, quoting the report’s author David Spencer. Chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s DEI committee, chief constable Rachel Kearton, told the paper that “understanding the communities we serve” is essential.
