The death of 25-year-old Ibrahim Pilasar Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee,” has drawn widespread attention after he allegedly died following a mob attack over accusations of stealing an iPhone 12 in Jos, Plateau State.

The incident has sparked calls for justice, with the Plateau State Police Command arresting three suspects and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) demanding a thorough investigation.

Beyond the circumstances surrounding his death, Mbaya was known for his interest in modelling and fashion.

1. He was popularly known as ‘Ibee’

Although his full name was Ibrahim Pilasar Mbaya, he was widely known as “Ibee,” a name he also used on his social media accounts.

2. He worked as a baker and model

In a resurfaced interview, Mbaya introduced himself as a baker and a model, showing his passion for both business and the fashion industry.

3. He recently became a Top 30 pageant finalist

Before his death, organisers of Mr & Miss Glam Nigeria announced Mbaya as one of the competition’s Top 30 finalists.

The youth-focused pageant promotes fashion, culture, leadership and career development among young people. Two days before news of his death emerged, the organisers shared a video of Mbaya completing one of his runway tasks.

4. His last Instagram post spoke about peace

Mbaya’s final Instagram post, shared on July 24, featured photos of himself with the caption:

“A little sunshine, a little silence, a lot of peace.”

The post also included hashtags linked to the Mr & Miss Glam Nigeria competition.

5. He was looking forward to his next birthday

Information on his social media pages showed that Mbaya’s birthday was September 18.

His death has continued to attract reactions on social media, with many Nigerians condemning jungle justice and calling for those responsible to be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command said Mbaya was brought unconscious to the Jos University Teaching Hospital on July 26 by some youths, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

The command said three suspects had been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, while efforts were ongoing to arrest other people allegedly linked to the incident.

NANS also condemned the killing, describing it as ”heartbreaking” and calling for a thorough investigation.
